  • Speed Mentoring Is Back!

Speed Mentoring is back for the first time in years!

Whether you're a seasoned HR pro or just beginning your career, this event is going to be a blast for all.  It's all going down May 9th at the Novotel Hotel.  Register at the events page here.

We wanted to use the occasion to get in touch with the members of our old MentorCity dashboard to ensure you had the opportunity to join in before registration fills up!

And in case you haven't heard, last year we re-launched MentorCity with the convenient 'self-matching' feature, giving members more control over their mentorship experience. Head over to the new MentorCity community page to create your new profile.

Not only is this a free event, but you'll earn CPD hours, enjoy some light food & drinks and gain mentoring opportunities in the process!

The interactive discussion in a speed networking format will give attendees the chance to ask real questions to learn “what it’s really like” from individuals working in the industries they hope to start their careers in and allow you to grow your network.

So don't forget to follow the link and secure your Speed Mentoring spot before it's too late!

  • iVolunteer Training for Chapter Volunteers

    Hello Community

I trust you've all been doing well!

I am writing to you all today to let you know that I have created the following survey to determine the frequency and timing of recurring iVolunteer training sessions - something that many of you have been requesting.

    https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YRPQBBR

Your responses to this survey will help me determine when these sessions will be taking place, and how often.

The survey should take you no more than a minute to complete.

I would greatly appreciate getting your feedback to this survey by Friday, February 15th.

As always, I welcome any thoughts you may have.

    Until the next update.

When: Wednesday, January 30th – Friday, February 1st
Where: Metro Toronto Convention Centre, South Building, 600 level
How: start connecting with your peers now

    Hello Community,

I hope you are all excited to attend the upcoming 2019 HRPA Annual Conference!

With it just around the corner, we wanted to provide you with a means to easily connect with each other in person.

We’ve heard from many of you how important this is to you, so we’re creating a space at HRPA’s 2019 Annual Conference to facilitate these face-to-face conversations.

Our Networking Café meet-up stations are located on the 600 level and will be open throughout the conference.

If you are looking to connect and share knowledge with fellow HR professionals before & after our Annual Conference, then you may be interested in signing up to HRPA's virtual networking platform, available exclusively for members through the HRPA Networking Café.

It takes less than 3 minutes to join and you can complete your profile using your LinkedIn. To sign up and start connecting with your peers, click here: https://bit.ly/2FfrVJu

HRPA’s Networking Café was launched officially at our 2018 Annual Conference. Since then, our annual conference registrants, volunteers, members and students have participated in hundreds of face-to-face meet-ups and thousands of telephone exchanges and unique conversations have taken place.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the conference.

As always, I welcome your thoughts, comments and anything else you may have for me!

  • Annual reminder to audit your Chapter's volunteer opportunities

    Hello Community,

As we approach the end of the year, I wanted to send out a quick reminder for you all to take a quick look through your Chapter's volunteer opportunity listings to see which ones you're still looking to fill, and which ones have already been filled and are no longer active.

With a new year comes a renewed interest for many to get involved with the Association through their local Chapter.

From time to time, I'll receive an email from someone wanting to put their name forward to volunteer, however, they have reservations to do so given the dates indicated on the listing they're interested in. There have been some instances where a potential volunteer will contact me and ask me if they're able to apply for a volunteer opportunity which dates back as far as 2016!

When you have a moment, please take a quick look through your Chapter's volunteer opportunities. For all inactive opportunities, please remove them by clicking on EDIT > Put on hold. By putting the opportunity on hold, it will be saved in the back end and remain invisible to the public. The content can be used and revised for future use.

If you need any help with this, then please feel free to contact either myself or your TMS. We'd be more than happy to help guide you through this process.

    Happy Holidays!

    Justin

We anticipate the downtime will last anywhere from 1 - 3 hours.

If you have any questions about this, feel free to send them over to me directly.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

  • Volunteer Opportunities for HRPA's 2019 Annual Conference

    Hello Community,

Want to network with your HR peers, see world-class speakers and enjoy HRPA's 2019 Annual Conference & Trade Show for free?

Every year, more than 200 HRPA member-volunteers from across Ontario contribute to the success of our Annual Conference & Trade Show. Volunteer opportunities exist in areas such as Registration, Media room, Speaker Support, Sessions, and more.

Here are just a few of the opportunities that are available. If you are interested in helping out with Canada's premier HR conference, I encourage you to put your name forward for both these opportunities and for new ones forming in the not too distant future.

Volunteer selections will be made based on HRPA's needs. We welcome applications from returning volunteers, but cannot guarantee selection or placement in the previous area of responsibility. Our goal is to provide individuals who have not volunteered in the past, with the opportunity to do so.

We Look Forward to Working With You!

  • You Asked, We Listened: Navigating Your Community Library Just Got Easier!

    Hello Community,

A quick update for you all today.

I have been hearing from a fair amount of you that you would like a simpler, easier way to find the exact file you are looking for in your community libraries. Many of you have been saying that it takes you far too many clicks to find documents you and your fellow community members refer to often.

Well, today I am happy to announce that the default library view has been changed for all communities! Now, instead of seeing a long list of all the most recent uploads in your library and having to scroll down multiple pages to find the file you are looking for, you will now see a full list of the file folders in your community.

In short, what does this mean for you? It means you will be able to find the exact file you are looking for, with fewer clicks and less time!

Have an idea for something you would like to see on iVolunteer? Let me know! I welcome any thoughts and/or comments you may have!

    Until the next update.

  • Best practices for safe in-person connections

    Hello Community,

While the vast majority of new connections through iVolunteer & HRPA's Networking Cafe are positive, it is always important to be aware and to practice good safety when meeting with new people.

We recommend taking the following precautions when connecting with new people through either iVolunteer or HRPA's Networking Cafe:

    • Do not give out personal or banking information (e.g. social insurance number, bank account number) over the Internet.
    • When meeting someone in-person, always let a friend or colleague know where you are going, who you are meeting, and when you expect to return.
    • When meeting someone in-person, choose a well-lit, public area.
    • Carry a mobile phone with you in case of emergencies.
    • Inform HRPA directly of any attempted fraud, deception, harassment and any other negative or illegal behaviour

As always, I welcome any comments or questions you may have.

    Until the next update.

  • Results: HRPA Survey on Volunteer On-boarding Experience [INFOGRAPHIC]

    Hello Community,

Earlier this Spring, we asked volunteers to complete a survey on their onboarding experience.  The feedback received will shape the way we onboard and orient new volunteers in the future.

HRPA's volunteers are the backbone of the Association, with over a thousand volunteer opportunities across Ontario, conducting much-needed work on behalf of the Association and the Profession. Quite simply, we would not be able to achieve our mandate without our volunteers.

Attached is a summary infographic of the survey results for your information. You can also access it by clicking here.

As always, I welcome any comments you may have.

    Until the next update,
