Position Summary:

In order to ensure fairness in its regulatory practices, HRPA established an Appeal Committee in accordance with the Registered Human Resources Professionals Act, 2013 and section 22 of the By-laws. The purpose of HRPA’s internal appeals process is to determine whether a denial of natural justice and/or a procedural error was made in a decision made by HRPA’s regulatory committees or by the Registrar.

The internal appeals process is an important aspect of HRPA’s regulatory framework.

Who May Sit on the Committee:

  • Members of the Public
  • HRPA Members with a CHRP, CHRL, or CHRE designation

Skills & Qualifications:

The skills and experience we are looking for include the ones set out below. Please ensure relevant skills and experience are set out on your résumé or in a cover note. 

  • Regulatory experience
  • Adjudicative skills
  • Excellent written skills
  • Legal training (licence to practise law or provide legal services is an asset but not a requirement)  
  • Understanding and ability to chair a panel

Time Commitment:

The Appeal Committee meets in panels of three to review, assess, and discuss an appeal via a one hour teleconference during business hours.  If the appeal is in the form of a hearing, approximately 3 - 5 hours may need to be set aside.  The length of deliberations may include a greater time commitment depending on the complexity of the appeal that has been filed. 

Committee members are expected to review panel package in advance of the review and may require approximately 1 - 5 hours.  A committee member may sit on a panel anywhere between 5 - 8 times per year, depending on the volume of appeal received in a given year. Additionally, the Appeal Committee will meet annually for a business meeting for approximately 3 hours.  

Each committee member serves a three-year term, renewable to a maximum of three terms (nine years in total). The volunteer year begins June 1, 2024.

  • ensure you understand the committee roles you may be considering; and
  • ensure you understand the public-interest nature of serving on a regulatory committee
