The Student Liaison is a fundamental part of the Human Resources Professionals Association Durham Chapter. The role works under the guidance of the Membership Director to provide an avenue of communication and insight into the needs of local post-secondary students. The role also provides recommendations on how the chapter can support its student member efforts to find meaningful HR career guidance.

The Student Liaison is responsible for connecting and engaging with current student members or students interested in the practice of Human Resources, and acts as an Ambassador for the Chapter, while promoting awareness and value of the HR profession and Association. This role will also support the needs of this Membership Committee as they relate to the overarching goals of the Chapter and the HRPA.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with local Human Resources students and provide feedback on student experience, and recommendations for initiatives to increase student member engagement to the Chapter Executive
  • In collaboration with the Education and Professional Development committees, assist in the planning and organizing of events strongly geared towards students
  • Promote HRPA membership benefits, the attainment of the CHRP designation, and encourage students to become a student member of HRPA Durham Chapter
  • Foster strong relationships between students and the Chapter, actively promoting mentorship, learning and networking opportunities
  • Respond to any student member inquiries as they relate to Association or Chapter membership
  • Contact non-renewed members in order to solicit feedback and assist with improving current methods of connecting with students
  • Engage in marketing and advertising efforts and represent the Chapter and HRPA at student oriented events
  • Attend monthly Membership Committee meetings

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in (or a recent graduate of) a Human Resources or Business program at a local post-secondary institution (Durham College, Trent, UOIT)
  • Must be an HRPA Student member in good standing, or be willing to register as an HRPA Student member
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including social media marketing, are essential as relationship-building and chapter branding are emphasized in this role
  • Must be able to devote sufficient volunteer time to the duties of the position (approximately 10 hours per month), meet deadlines and complete tasks as assigned
  • Good knowledge of the Chapter and HRPA a strong asset
  • Ability to work independently, while being part of a larger team
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills
